Bumps in the Daylight and Monsters in the File Cabinets

"And sometimes to this day, when the sun is out and the birds are singing, when the roadsides are covered with wildflowers, you can smell freshly baked bread and hear sweet old Mrs. Johnson's sewing machine humming away in the distance. If you're really lucky, you might even get a glimpse of her ghost, wearing her favorite sun bonnet and pulling weeds around the place where her little cabin once sat."

Not a very spooky ending to a ghost story told around a campfire late at night, is it? It's definitely not. And because of it not being very spooky, stories like this are all too often overlooked when digging around for haunting legends to investigate. However, stories like this are out there and not uncommon at all. Sadly, they're largely ignored in favor of the thrill of night time investigations and hunting.

Most ghost hunters these days focus on spooky places at dark. Why? Probably because of the age old superstition and misconception of "ghosts only come out at night", combined with a various assortment of bits and pieces of beliefs and mythology from all over the world... Light is positive, dark is negative. Three A.M. is the "anti-hour". Let's not forget the witching hour of course, and tons of other beliefs pertaining to the dark of night. All of those reasons equate in some form or another to some type of negativity and somewhere along the passage of time, ghosts were thrown into that mix of negative things that are associated only with the dark and night.

Of course, to many ghost hunters, it's also just more spooky at night. It's part of the thrill of the chase. Old superstitions and fears that we don't even think we have lay hidden in the subconscious and add to that thrill. You can't see everything around you and the absence of daytime nose pollution, in addition to the sounds that only manifest while most of us are sleeping, enables one to hear things that many are not normally used to hearing. Screech owls in the back of the property bring about startled utterances of "Oh my God, what was that!?". Stray cows mournfully bellowing out for their bedded down herd makes the unaccustomed want to run for their cars. Even the small and harmless out-of-site armadillos shuffling and rooting through the pine straw and undergrowth leaves impressions of a 400 pound unknown beast trampling around in the dark while watching your every move.

Often times though when the suggestion is made to investigate or begin an investigation at daylight, the suggestion is met with hesitation and the sense of spoiling the fun. That's fine if you're into ghost hunting for just that thrill or to wear the badge of "I'm a ghost hunter and I walk around cemeteries and abandoned houses at night because I fear nothing". But for the serious investigator, the one who gains fun, enjoyment, and a thrill from the critical and analytical aspect of investigating the unknown, for the one who likes to keep objectivity in mind and biases out, it's just plain common sense to have an investigation during daylight, or at least arrive during daylight hours for a pre-investigation inspection. Sometimes people learn that when they go the old local house place that's rumored to be haunted and find nothing at night, but later hear someone make the comment of "you should have went there in the early afternoon. That's when the grounds keepers always smell freshly caught fish under that old oak tree". Sometimes people learn when they arrive at the popular haunted cemetery after dark to see gates locked and "no visitors after dark" signs posted.

Many reputable and long time paranormal researchers have stated that the best evidence is often captured during the daytime. According to them, the evidence tends to be of better quality due to the fact that night time photography and video has limitations because of the lack of light. According to some, up to 80 percent of the unexplainable apparitions caught on film were done so during daylight. Stephen Wagner, who writes for the paranormal section of About.com, has stated that in the collection of photos that he's acquired over the years, the majority of the truly unexplainable ones were taken during the day. Long time investigators and researchers (Price, Holzer, Auerbach, Southall, Chacon, etc...) have all documented unexplainable phenomena during the day. Such phenomena from apparitions to heavy poltergeist activity have all been witnessed during broad daylight.

The office that my mother formerly worked at during the day was often plagued with unexplained occurrences. The occurrences soon turned into to allegations of the office, a former apartment building, being haunted. They had toilets to flush by themselves, heard footsteps on the old wooden floors, and several of the ladies working there were even witness to a drawer in one the file cabinets suddenly and quickly opening all the way up. The incidents were truly unexplainable. After checking, no one was in the back that could have walked through the hall. Everyone was busy with paperwork and not in the bathroom. And everyone in the main section of the office were sitting there at their desks when the cabinet opened up by itself right in front of them. So many strange things happened there that the resident office skeptic soon turned into a believer, acknowledging that something was going on that couldn't be explained by his rational sense of logic.

A good friend of mine who is somewhat sensitive to ghosts has had quite a number of experiences during the day. She's experienced the sighting of a man wearing overalls outside her house, heard whistling and shuffling in the grass while doing chores outside, has heard someone moving around dishes and utensils in the dish strainer when there was no one there, and many other experiences. She's said that probably thirty percent of the things that happen around her place happen during the day. Daytime phenomena at her place is not in the majority, but it's definitely not rare when it happens.

Another good friend of mine relayed a story to me about the house that a friend's friend lived in at one time. The friend stood in amazement one day while a commode seat lifted up and then closed back down repeatedly. They later moved from the house after coming home one afternoon and seeing all of the kitchen cabinet doors wide open and their contents laying in the middle of the floor.

Of course those are just local incidents. If they can happen here in a place that is not famous for it's hauntings, it seems to reason that they could happen anywhere. Many daytime visitors to the former Civil War battlefields have reported apparitions as well as the smell of gunpowder, disembodied shouts and moans, and hearing the galloping of horses. Even the smell of lilacs has been smelled by visitors to Gettysburg, said to be from the use of lilac water at the time to cover up the literal stench of death that overtook the town. Daytime visitors to an old courthouse in San Jacinto County, Texas have reported seeing the apparition of Rufus, a man that was hung there. The famous Waley House in San Diego, said by researchers to be one of the most haunted structures in the United States, has had it's share of daytime phenomena witnessed by vacationers. A woman who works at Tamworth Castle in Staffordshire, England, recalled the time when she was struck in the face by what felt like sand when opening up one morning. A fellow employee of hers has said that never a day goes by that something unexplained doesn't happen. Again, these are just a handful of instances. The Queen Mary, Hand Hotel in Wales, The Lemp Mansion in Missouri, Alcatraz, The Myrtles Plantation, Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery, etc, etc... All have been the locations of reported daytime unexplained phenomena ranging from dishes being thrown by unseen forces to phantom houses appearing out of nowhere.

Some other reasons for investigating (or at least beginning an investigation) during daylight are objectivity and basic safety. It's good to get a different perspective on things during daylight. Sometimes the sources for those strange sights and weird sounds seen and heard at night are easily explained during the day when their source can be more clearly seen. Hazards from uncovered wells to the hidden run down house of a crazy neighbor hermit who likes to fire his gun in the air to scare off strange vehicles driving down 'his' road are more easily noticed. Ghost investigation can be lots of fun if taken seriously, but that fun starts to fade away when an investigator falls for a teenager's prank, sprains an ankle while tripping on a loose floorboard, or gets lost down a road that they shouldn't have taken.

This of course is not at all to say that ghost investigators shouldn't go at night. Going at night does have it benefits. Due to it being dark, actual apparitions are many times easier to see against the dark back drop. Abnormal sounds are also more easily heard due to the absence of the daytime noise pollution mentioned earlier. Depending on the location and the type of activity, some are definitely more haunted at night and a night time visit could very well pay off. There does appear to be more evidence gathered at night. But one has to ask if it's because more people go hunting at night. Night also seems to be a more active time for hauntings. But again, is it because less attention is paid during the day due to that preconceived thought that "nothings going to happen while the sun is still out"?

It's clear to see that night time isn't the only time of day when the ghosts come out. In an attempt to answer some of the questions regarding day vs. night hauntings, it would seem that the best time of day for a thorough investigation is both. Arrive early in the day, talk to witnesses, ask about times and days that have the most activity, and gather base readings for everything. Look around, familiarize yourself with the surroundings, and make note of everything you see, hear, smell, and feel. Stay until well after nightfall and do the same. When morning comes, you might walk away with nothing new. Or you might walk away with the most compelling evidence that you and others have ever seen. After the data is in and the evidence is reviewed, you just might get a bigger surprise than you've ever gotten at night.

The Mulberry Demon Of Anderson County Kentucky.

This report was taken on 6/1/11 in a 45 minute phone interview by Philip Spencer.

In the early spring of 2007 a young woman in Anderson County Kentucky got up from bed to let her pup out. The time was between 12 AM & 3 AM. She walked out on the porch of her house with the little dog and watched as the pup walked down the steps into the yard. The porch light was out on the porch and the family had been having some odd electrical occurrences over the last few days.
The porch was approximately three feet off the ground and there was a barn approximately fifty yards from the porch with a Mulberry tree which was about thirty feet tall to her left in the yard. The pup walked off the porch and then turned quickly and ran back up the steps and ran to the young woman's feet obviously frightened of something. The young woman was puzzled as to what the pup could be afraid of and she looked in the direction of the barn to see if she could see anything.

There was a security light on the side of the house and the moon was creating enough light where the young woman could see enough to see outlines and the tree lines. As the young woman looked in the direction of the barn she realized there was something between her and the barn at about 25 yards. What she was seeing was a dark form standing in what might have been a slight crouch. It was a humanoid form that appeared to be 4 to 4.5 feet tall. This form was dark in color and very stocky/bulky looking. She could not see any eyes or the face. Suddenly the creature ran at her, she could hear the animal running and the sound it made was that of a very heavy animal running with a thud to the feet hitting the ground. She stated to me that she did not see it drop to all fours that it was like she saw it standing then it was running. She gasped and when she did the creature turned sideways and ran at the Mulberry tree. She stated she could then see a very good side view of the creature. She said the creature looked to have somewhat shorter legs on the front and that it had a humped back. To her the head looked large and bulky compared to the body size of what she was seeing and she said she felt this creature was well over 100 lbs.
When the creature reached the Mulberry tree it jumped on the tree and climbed up the tree to the top and then launched into the air and flew in the direction of the barn. As the stunned young woman stood watching the creature fly away she stated she could see and hear the wings flapping and they wings were very large and the sound of the wings implied to her of a powerful flap.

She told me she stood on the porch and wasn’t sure what had just happened before her eyes but she grabbed the pup and went back inside.
The next day the woman was perplexed and very shook up by what she had seen and she kept trying to logically conduce what she had seen the night before. She was taking a shower the next day and as the event was all that was on her mind she froze as she thought she must have seen a demon. She is a woman who believes in God and when she thought she had seen a demon she prayed that it never come back and leave her family alone. That day the light on the front porch stated working again and the odd electrical problems ceased.

Conclusion: The young woman I spoke with was intelligent and well spoken. She was not on any medications at the time of the event and there were no unusual stresses in her life at this time, life was actually good as they were enjoying a new baby and she was a nursing mom. In my interactions with her on the phone she was lucid and steadfast in her recollections of what happened. Other than the sounds of the feet hitting the ground and the wings flapping there were no sounds from the creature.

She stated her family had ghosts events over the years but nothing like this had ever happened before or after this event. She told me this event changed the way she thought about something's and had an impact on her life. She said the creature put the thought of a gargoyle into her mind while she was witnessing the creature.
When the creature was standing she said at no time did it appear to have arms however, in the low light and as it was a dark color that would have been hard to determine. I find it very interesting how she was looking directly at the creature and it just seemed to suddenly be running. Could the front legs have actually been the wings? She stated the creature went up the tree like a cat, swift and moving quickly.
What did this young woman see and why was it there? Where did it go to and where did it come from? Well, one thing I know is this. This event happened near the Frazier land in Anderson County which is the area I wrote my book about and my movie is about, over 6000 acres of land. I have no idea why this area has so many strange unexplained events but to this day the reports keep coming in and they are told my credible and articulate people who I have no reason to doubt even though I approach things from a point of just taking the facts and looking for signs that the story is not true.

I have researched all kinds of strange going on in the nights from all across the country and as I have said for many years, there is much more lurking in the darkness than our old friend Sasquatch and we all need to remember that. When approaching an old Mulberry tree in Anderson County Kentucky late at night it might be best to look up…

I See Dead Skin.

Last year, I was given the news that a reputable Bigfoot research organization here in Texas was headed to a school to give lessons to local school children. To teach them about Bigfoot? Not entirely, but they did use their search for Bigfoot as an example to teach something that paranormal researchers deem just as important: Critical thinking and rational skepticism when investigating scientific enigmas. This, I feel, is especially true in my favorite paranormal subject, ghosts and hauntings.

One of the most important aspects of researching and investigating the paranormal is critical thinking and rational skepticism. Some people who are into the paranormal see the word "skeptic" and they see a bad word. They despise it and the people who label themselves as such. But for those who are more than just "into the paranormal" and actually spend long hours of pouring over information and research on it, skepticism can be our best friend. In investigating, in true scientific fashion, we must not only try to prove, but try to disprove as well. In fact, that's one of the first things that should be done. It doesn't make our job easier. It actually makes it more tasking and hard. But it makes it more honest. It makes it honest with ourselves, with others in the field, and with those who are acquiring an interest in the subject.

"In true scientific fashion". That phrase is scary to some fans of the paranormal because we all know what those in the realm of orthodox science think about much of the subject. But, let's face it... There is no hard scientific evidence of ghosts. Even the most reputable researchers can't even agree on what exactly a ghost is and why the phenomena occurs. If they claim that they do, it's out of belief. Maybe someday undeniable proof and hard evidence will be found. Until then, all we can prove is that something anomalous is occurring and that there are things happening that have no explanation. We have to prove that there is something paranormal going on. To do this, we have to be skeptical and critical because science, I firmly think, has the answers. The science is already there. It's been there because science does not change. The only thing about science that changes is the minds and biases of the scientists. It's the job of the researchers and investigators to change those minds. And they will never change unless we put on our lab coats, put a little investigative forensics into the field, and start getting down to business and prove that not all that happens has a conventional explanation.

We have to look at things with a discerning eye and try and not let preconceived beliefs get the better of us. When a strange sound is heard, we have to search around and rule out normal causes. They can range from a cougar's scream (possibly the cause of many of the "screaming woman" sounds) to large black walnuts hitting a tin roof in Autumn and making us believe that Old Man Jones doesn't want us in his barn. When a sighting of an apparition is seen, we have to use our equipment to try and rule out non-paranormal causes. How many ghost enthusiasts out there know that electromagnetic energy can cause hallucinations, dizziness, and other symptoms in perfectly healthy people? We have to ask questions. We have to hit the libraries and courthouses to study the history of the places that we investigate. We have to hit the science books and learn all we can about the world we live in so that we can rule out worldly causes.

Why do we want to disprove something that we're trying to prove? We're not. We're trying to weed out what we're not hunting for. It will take longer to find Bigfoot if we automatically treat every sighting and photo as authentic. Psychic ability will never be believed by those who write the science books if we don't rule out the possibility of subconscious influence or stage magic. UFOs will never be confirmed as extra-terrestrial in origin if we treat every weather balloon sighting as a ship piloted by a little green man. The existence of ghosts will never go past being a hypothesis if we keep concentrating on 'possum dander in digital photographs.

Some people will think that if you keep being so skeptical, you're never going to find anything. Not true. You'll find something eventually, just have patience. Sure, you can walk away from a place after hearing a strange sound or seeing a strange sight and inaccurately say "Yep, it's haunted" without really properly examining. It is fun for some and it does get people interested. But if we really want to call ourselves "investigators" or "researchers", then we have to put on the researcher hat, get down to business, and do ourselves and the paranormal community justice. If you really investigate, you'll rule out a lot of what's seen and heard as being normal. That's part of the fun of investigating. But if you investigate enough places while asking the right questions, you'll eventually find a place where you can walk away while honestly saying, "there is definitely something paranormal going on here". That is the first step in finding answers to what, as of now, has no answers.

Yeah, I said it. "Possum dander".

Mountain Lions, Bigfoots, and Bears, Oh My!

One of the most common arguments and skeptical questions concerning Bigfoot is "where are they"? This question is asked by those who believe he's out there. It's also brought up in sarcasm by skeptics who seem to think that we crypto-people think that Sasquatch are just running around all over the place, so why aren't there recorded sightings filed by officials and experts in the various wildlife industries?

Sometime last year, our local news station in the East Texas area featured a report on some recent cougar sightings in the area. In this story, some local game officials (experts in other words) were interviewed and stated with confidence that they had to be misidentifications because there's no cougars here. They're further west, not in our humid, river-strewn, semi-tropical Pine and Oak forested bottomlands.

A few nights later, the news had a follow up story. This one included numerous pictures that people had taken of cougars and their tracks in the area. I didn't see the news that night, I heard about it from someone. But when I heard it I laughed. And then I had one of those "Well, duh!" moments because it's something that we see so many times in Cryptozoology too. Some people, apparently even some of the "experts", just really don't have much of an idea of what they're talking about. The sad thing is, I'm not talking about any complex theories or advanced level scientific knowledge here. I'm talking about common sense.

Yes, we have cougars here. We've had them for a while actually. You might see tracks if you really go looking. You might even hear one holler if you're at the right place at the right time. Maybe, just maybe, you might get to see one, though you could easily live here your whole life and never get a glimpse. I myself have seen a total of one and one-quarter cougar. Out of two sightings, I never saw a whole animal. They're that elusive. Why were the game officials so wrong then? Their offices aren't out in the middle of the remote woods where many of the witnesses actually live and work. It's pretty simple really.

The same also goes with black bears here. Official word has it that they're coming down from Oklahoma, but haven't quite made it this far yet. No, they're here. They've been here. I've spoken with people who've seen them. Not many people. And it's always people that live out of the city limits in a more rural setting. It's usually people that tend to know their surroundings and know what they saw. Just like with the cougar reports. It makes you wonder how bear or cougar sightings compare statistically to Bigfoot sightings in some areas. I mean, there's places around the Appalachians that are hot-pockets for Bigfoot sightings. Then places like mine where a creature that actually exists is not said to be here because sightings are so minimal or unreliable or not "official".

We tune in to the evening news on a slow news night and see a story about a Bigfoot sighting. We're shown a rugged looking, toothless witnesses who looks like he was drug straight from the swamps. Many laugh and think to themselves "oh Lord...". But seriously. Realistically and seriously...

North Carolina Bigfoot Sightings

Greetings and I hope everyone had a great new year and has a great 2011. For my first interview of 2011 I bring you a very special report. I was recently contacted by a man who asked me to interview his daughter concerning her sighting (s) of Bigfoot. After a few days of email exchanges we came to an agreement on a time for me to call and speak to her about what had occurred.
I called and we began our conversation and I found the young lady to be articulate and literate and very intelligent. She was very precise with most aspects of her story and after about five minutes into our conversation she mentioned something which caught my ear and I asked her how old she was as her father never mentioned her age. She replied she was 15 years old! I was truly surprised by her age and her maturity in her way of presenting herself..

I will not be using her full name and I will not give her specific location due to her age. The following sightings took place in North Carolina. In this report the witness will be called HM..

In 2008 HM and a friend where playing on the edge of a woods and playing just inside the tree line. The girls smelled a strong stench and moved further into the woods to see if they could find what the smell was coming from. HM said the smell was like a decomposing carcass. A point of interest to me was that when the girls left the smell was gone after about 30 minutes. I can attest that this type of odor will stay with you and then dissipate from your smell after a short time period, but can linger longer..
The girls found a large log that had fallen over and were playing near the log. Her friend suddenly stopped and was looking in the direction over the top of the large log laying on the ground. HM could not see what her friend was seeing and pulled herself up on the large log. When she did this she saw what her friend was frozen in place staring at .
What the girls were looking at was a large hairy upright creature. The creature was somewhat bent over at an angle from them and was doing something with some branches. HM said it looked like the creature was examining the branches. The creature was very bulky and it seemed as if the hair contained highlights and this was a sunny day. HM stated the hair was long but shorter than 12 inches. On the back of the head the hair seemed to hang down at least five inches. Shorter on the body. HM could see the arms but was not sure of full arm length. HM described the hands as looking like a gorillas hand to her. HM actually saw the creature handling a branch and lay it down. The branches were approximately one inch in diameter and 3 to 4 feet long.

The branches did have a few leaves on them. The creature was approximately 30 feet away. When I asked HM how tall the creature seemed to be she said she could not be sure as she was looking at how big it was and not how tall it was. The time of year was March. HM slipped on the log and her foot hit the ground with a crunch and when this happened the creature stood up quickly and it was looking around , it was turning its head back and forth and as it did the girls tried to hide behind the fallen tree. The girls could see the legs as the creature moved away.
In 2009 HM and her friend had gone out to take down a hunting blind and as they were preparing to take down the hunting blind HM looked over and saw a large (7-8 feet tall) hairy creature walk into the woods. HM said the first creature was much darker in color. She described the second creature as having a more light brown cast to its color. The second sighting was approximately 10 miles from the first. The first creature seemed to be much larger to HM than the second creature. The time of year was November or early December. The time of day was mid day and HM found it odd for the creature to be out that time of day.

The people who owned the land had killed deer and left the carcass's in the field. HM did not like how the people handled the carcasses as they were left in the area for a week and HM stated the smell was horrible in the area. HM also stated to her it looked like the creature was moving away from a carcass laying near the point where she saw the creature entering the woods.

HM knows a person who flies often in the area and this pilot has told her he has seen dark figures out in fields or in breaks in the woods as he flew low over this area. And the sightings have been over a long number of years.
HM stated that what stuck in her mind about these creatures was they seemed to her to be so human like but at the same time they were an animal. HM was not able to see the whole face of either creature but she was able to get a quick side view of the face of the first creature and she said it's nose was "smussed up". HM said the forehead went back. No hair visible on face but the hair hung down into the face. All this was from a quick side view.

HM told me she hoped no one ever killed one of these creatures but that someday we find out what they are..

This was a fascinating interview and HM presented herself in a very honest way. A great report to start 2011 and more reports are on their way..

Bigfoot In Anderson County Kentucky, Part II

Bigfoot In The Trees

On Sunday December 5th of 2010 I interviewed Tami Mercer on the phone for 45 minutes from her residence in Kentucky, Tami at one time lived in Lawrenceburg Kentucky in Anderson County. In the interview I took details of three incidents in her life that had a long term impact on her and still does today. As of 2010 Tami still does not like to go to windows at night and she does not like to go outside at night in the dark alone or even with someone. As she told me and relived these events I could hear her fear and I could even tell she was shaking after all these years later..

With Bigfoot the main character in two of the events and what might have been a Bigfoot in the third story with her step grandfather involved.

In the late 1970;s Tami Mercer and several of her friends were playing outside at a trailer park on the east side of Lawrenceburg Kentucky. They were just messing around playing as kids play. Tami glanced over to the east in a large field and near the tree line she thought she saw a strange looking tree. It was cold and in the winter time.

Jokingly she said "that tree is coming for us" or something of that nature and they all laughed but as they looked something happened. The strange looking tree moved. It not only moved but it moved in their direction. This large hairy creature came across the field and at the children who started to panic and run.
This creature fits the description of the creature Bigfoot. One unusual aspect of this sighting was the color. Tami stated it was a gray color and noticeably gray. Tami stated that several times before on foggy morning she would see something walking in the same area where the creature walked out of the woods.
Tami ran inside and hid in her trailer as she was convinced whatever this thing was , it was coming for them.

This sighting was on U.S. 62 on the eastern side of Lawrenceburg Kentucky and occurred in the afternoon and the sighting occurred in late November or early December of the late 1970's. A more detailed description was not possible other than large and hairy and a grayish color with long hair.

Chased By Bigfoot

In the early 1980's, possible 82 or 83, Tami and a friend were out in the area of the Wildcat Road in Anderson County Kentucky. Young teen aged girls just wandering around and walking along on frozen creeks and talking and shooting a 22 caliber rifle they had with them. As they came up to an area where they had hillsides on both sides Tami and her friend started to cross a barbed wire fence and Tami went over the fence first and as she turned to help her friend she heard what she said was a "heavy" sound on the hillside. The hillside was typical of Kentucky hillsides with a mixture of Dirt and rock. As both girls looked up what their eyes saw froze them.

Tami said it was like she was trying to think what she was seeing but what she was seeing was not something that made sense to her brain. In her mind she was thinking is that a man or is that a bear but she knew it was neither. Standing on the side of the hill was a huge bi-pedal creature with long hair. According to Tami the reason they looked up to the area where the creature was standing was because it was doing something and making noise. She was not able to tell what it was doing but was certain it was involved in some kind of activity and when Tami said " Oh Sh**!, What is that? " the creature turned and looked at them. When it did the girls ran as fast as they could. The creature then pursued them. The girls could hear the creature coming through the woods behind them and Tami stated that somehow it was gaining on them and it must have been very fast as they were fast and running as hard as they could and how this huge creature could not only run this far but start to catch them, she just doesn't understand.
She could hear branches breaking and crunching sounds as it seemed to be gaining on two girls who were very fast runners. Tami said she never looked back she just ran as fast and hard as she could.

As the terrified girls ran they came out of the woods and into a clearing (open field) and when they did the creature stopped and did not pursue them any further.
Tami said the creature was dark in color and had long hair that was not matted but looked unusual. It was huge and bi-pedal. This sighting occurred in the winter and in the afternoon. Tami stated she thinks this event took place in 1982 or 83..
It seems that whatever the creature was doing occupied it to a level that someone shooting a gun or talking and laughing had no impact.

Strange Creature in the Night

In the mid 1980;s Tami was visiting with her step grandparents who lived near the Mercer and Anderson County Line. Things had had been happening at night that kept upsetting her grandfathers dogs. One night while she was visiting she heard something at the window and looked around and thought it was her grandfather outside messing around and trying to scare her.

She walked over to the window where she heard the noise and through the curtains back expecting to see her grandfather. But it was not her grandfather she saw. What she saw was a huge hairy creature looking in the window and it had no nose nor mouth. She panicked and ran.
From the information she later gathered her step Grandfather was outside and something happened to him that involved a light. When her Grandfather came back into the house he was mumbling and dazed.

He was not able to remember anything that happened outside and he also apparently had memory loss for that time period as this happened very near Christmas and he could never even remember Christmas of that year and time.
All she knows after that is when he grandfather went outside there was some kind of light and something happened to her grandfather and when he came back in he had no memory of what happened. Tami stated his entire life he never could remember what happened when he went outside but he knows something did happen..
Tami stated the creature looking in the window as huge and did look like the other two Sasquatch she had seen but this creatures hair was somehow different even though it was covered with hair. Tami also said the face had no hair nor did it have a nose for certain, and maybe no mouth but she could see the eyes clearly.

Tami often thinks about why she is someone who had these events on her life and she also told me that she thinks over and over what that creature was doing on that hillside and what would have happened if it had caught them. These events and sightings have caused a deep impact on her and causes her to reflect on these events often
All three of these events happened in the winter time in Ky..and Tami thinks they were between November and January.
More information is being gathered and further information will soon be posted..

Anderson County Kentucky Bigfoot Reports

This is a collection of Bigfoot sighting and interaction reports I have gathered over the years and put together to show how active Anderson County has been over the years. The following reports have been gathered by Philip Spencer..

1: Man finds huge track and takes picture in 2007:

"For the sake of anonymity the farmer will be known as The X Farmer"

In 2007 on a farm on the Harry Wise Road in Anderson County Kentucky a man and his wife were sitting on the porch relaxing after a long day and discussing the day’s events. His wife decided towhead inside and go to bed. The X Farmer sat on the porch in his old
rocking chair and listened to the sounds of the night, crickets chirping, a bird making a sound every now and then, a dog barking in the distance, and even far away the sound of a lone car or truck was moving along a road somewhere.
As he sat he realized everything had become very quiet. Everything had not only become quiet but it had become a little too quiet. He eased up in his chair and listened intently
for any sounds that might tell him why everything else had gone silent.
As he sat he heard something move in a creek approximately 150 feet
from his porch.

He could hear large limbs being moved or stepped on. He could tell from the heavy sounds they made that something was stepping on them or moving them and letting them hit the ground. He then heard something that chilled him. He heard deep breathing, not really labored breathing, but deep breathing. This breathing sounded like it was coming from something very large. It did not sound like the breathing of a person or any animal he had ever heard in the outdoors. There was something very different about this sound. The X Farmer sat and listened as whatever this was made its way down the creek then moved out of hearing distance. He eased up from his chair and went inside and picked up a shotgun and walked back outside.
This was more a ceremonial move as he was sure whatever this was had moved on, but he stood on his porch in the dark and listened and watched for a while. He soon turned and went back inside and retired for the night.
The next morning as soon as the chores were done he went directly to the area of the creek where he had heard the sound the night before. It had rained slightly and the ground was wet
enough to capture a good track so he had high hopes that whatever had moved through the night before making those sounds had also left some tracks. He looked in the area of least resistance where he thought something might have moved through. It was in the third such section that he saw something on the ground, and realized he was looking at a huge footprint. He stopped and looked closely and became extremely excited. He turned and quickly went back to his house and picked up his phone and called me. When he told me what he had found I asked
him if he had marked the place where the tracks were. He replied no,he got so excited he forgot to mark the exact location but he said he felt sure he could find it. I told him to hang up the phone immediately, grab a camera and a measuring device and go straight to the spot and take pictures and measurements and if he had anything to make a cast of the
tracks to do so. He hung up and did as I had instructed him to do.

When he returned to the area he could not find the original track which he said was much more distinctive than the two he took pictures of. The track he photographed is of a right foot. The foot measures from tip of heel to tip of large toe approximately 20 inches. The pictures are
not the best for showing the track even though the ground was muddy; the ground was also covered with leaves and just did not take the imprint as well as we hoped it would. However, I had The X Farmer drawan outline of the foot as he saw it and superimpose his outline over the
actual photo of the foot. The large toe is a point of interest. From his outline he thinks the creature slipped and this is the toe imprint showing slippage and that explains the odd enormity of the big toe imprint.

In his outline he also drew inwards in the area of the arch. He said he thought the creature was leaning or doing something that made it rise off the arch and dig the big toe into the mud resulting in the extended looking big toe. As anyone can see this is an enormous track.
For the sake of clarity I outlined the footprint with a thick gray color to show the outline
of the foot better as The X Farmer drew very small red dots in his outline. The X Farmer was sent my outline and approved the overlay I had done.

2: 1970 Sighting by Philip Spencer

The part of the country where I lived was just beautiful, surrounded by rivers and streams and creeks, valleys and heavy woodlands, my friend and I loved the outdoors and all the animals one could encounter in this area, we would often go out late at night into the valleys and drive down the old roads and take a powerful spotlight and shine it back threw the valleys along the river bottoms and look at all the deer and other animals we could spot, and for all you hunters and anyone thinking we were spot lighting deer, we were not..

One night we were in a remote part of the county, driving along an two lane road near the town of Glenboro in rural Anderson County Kentucky, on the left of this road was a small river, actually shouldn’t have even been called a river, it was maybe 100 yards wide at its widest point and maybe 20 feet deep at its deepest point, yet it ran for almost 100 miles, and was just so beautiful and on the sides of the river were open flat bottoms, rich & lush , but many were not covered with trees or brush and this is where you could see large herds of deer at night.

We drove to a place on the road where the road went up and at this point one could shine the light down into a large open area where the river made a turn and headed west, this was an excellent place to see animals, I was holding the spotlight, I seem to remember it was 1 million candle power maybe less, I was the passenger with my friend driving, I was holding the light out the window and pointing it over the car top and shining it threw the valley as we drove slowly along.

We were looking at all the deer in the valley and then as I swept the light along we saw something odd, it was hard to tell exactly what it was at first, my friend stopped the car and I put the light on the area where we saw this large shape, it was then it turned and looked in our direction, we saw two huge eyes, they were about 4-6 feet above where any of the deer eyes were and they had this reddish orange glow to them.

We both looked at each other and my friend then pulled the car to an old gravel road and we turned around and pulled over at the same place we had been, now I was on the side where I could work the light better.

I swept through the valley looking for the dark shape, I finally saw it and it was moving, moving down the valley , as it moved and I held the light on it, it would turn its head and look back at us, we would see those large eyes as it did. It was very easy to tell this was a creature with two legs and it was walking (briskly) upright, the way it turned its head reminded one of a person doing the same as its upper body turned slightly with the head.

This creature was approx 8 to 10 feet tall, it was large and bulky, both my friend and I were experienced outdoorsmen and this was not anything we had ever seen before, the creature moved down the valley in the open area till it was out of sight. We watched as this creature stepped over an old fence which I would say was 3 to 4 feet tall, it never broke stride it just stepped over the fence and vanished into the night.

We cannot say what this was, but we can say what it wasn’t, it wasn’t a bear or a person, those deer would have been long gone if it was either of these, and the deer only moved away from this creature as it moved away, they never panicked and ran.
In this same area several years later I was walking down the old rock road, which is refered to as River Road and was going to fish the river. As I was walking along suddenly to my right and up a steep hillside I heard a loud crashing in the thick woods on the hill. Suddenly a very large doe came down the hill side as hard as she could go and jumped the road and then jumped in the air down a very steep and tall incline and into the field and ran as hard as she could go out of sight. I stood and thought what in the world scared that deer so bad.

It was then I heard something moving up on the hillside. As I stood and listened i realized that whatever this was walking on two feet and to me it sounded like it was large as it walked, somewhat a walk that inferred to me something with great weight was moving on that hillside. I listened as it moved and I decided to move also, I decided I would much rather be in an open area and I moved down the road and honestly I was hoping to see this creature as I suspected this was the same Sasquatch I had seen years before.

I came to an open area where on the right was a little shack with a creek to its left and the end of the hillside where whatever this was had been walking. The creature had beat me to the place and there was no sight of anything other than a log on the hillside was freshly moved and I have always suspected this was wear the creature put his foot and it slid, this was not a small log and it was old and embedded but something big had made it move and it was fresh disturbance. I never saw anything and found no tracks. But I will always believe this was the same creature I had seen walk through the River Bottom of Salt River near Glensboro in Anderson County..

3: Boy & Girl See Bigfoot Sitting on Log

This story was reported to me and was second person told. The person who told me this was a close friend with one of the witnesses and spoke with the witness for me as I wanted to do an interview with one of the witnesses however, this sighting had such a negative impact in this person that they did not want to talk about it, at all!

The brother and sister lived on the Harry Wise Road in Anderson County Kentucky, one day they were walking down a path behind their home as they had done many times before and as they turned a corner they were both frozen in their tracks by what they saw.
Sitting on a log was a Bigfoot. They said the creature looked at them and then got up and turned and walked away.

4: Two men see Bigfoot walking on Ridge in Anderson County Kentucky in 1970's.

Bruce Young and his friend decided it would be a good time to go for a ride and enjoy the late afternoon while riding the back roads of Anderson County. As they rode along they talked about cars, hunting and girls. As they were cruising down Hammond Creek Road Bruce glanced up and as he did he saw something moving along the top of a hill. He stopped the car and told his friend to look up there and see what he was seeing. Bruce jumped out of the car and stood staring at the middle line of the hill and this creature he was watching move along the top. It was just after sunset but there was plenty of light to see this creature. He described it as being seven feet tall or more, huge in size and to him it looked like a massively built, hairy, manlike creature.

He stood for what he thought was maybe 30 seconds watching the creature move along. Bruce was approximately 50-60 yards away and he said as he watched he realized he was having what is known as, "goose bumps” appear all over his body. Bruce said the creature moved in what he described as an easy gait, and the hair was long and dark brown. Bruce Young viewed nature much differently after that moment. His thoughts on life and nature were altered. He was a changed man, and what changed his life was a huge, hairy, manlike creature known as
Bigfoot.

5: Elderly Couple See Large Creature walking tree line late 1990's.

The elderly couple had lived on the Harry Wise Road for over fifty years and the man was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. This story was told to me by a friend of the couple and not from the man himself as when I was in Kentucky and had the opportunity to go and interview the man in person, he was sick. He is in his late 80's.

One afternoon as the woman was in the kitchen she saw something back in the field moving along a tree line and she called her husband to come and look. The man watched closely as this animal walked along the outer edge of the tree line. With eyes sharpened by spending his life outdoors he watched until the creature moved back into the woods and was gone.

This sighting was in the late afternoon. When he would tell the story of what he saw he would say it was a bear walking on its back legs as that just had to be what it was, however, he also would say it was huge, bigger than anything he had ever seen or thought would be in the area. The friend who told me the story said the old man's eyes seemed to take on a different look when he spoke of this sighting, a look for wonder and a look as if he was saying something did not really believe but was the only way he knew to explain it..

6: Man reports seeing large creature walking along top of hill.

I received a report from a friend who told me a man who owned property near Taylorsville Lake in Anderson County had watched a large creature walk along the edge of his property which overlooked the lake below.
The man stated this creature was huge and walked upright on two legs and was looking in the direction of the lake every now and then as it moved along the ridge of the land. He said the creature finally turned and went down the hill towards the lake and he never saw it again. The man was adamant of what he saw and wanted to remain anonymous as he did not want to deal with the ridicule of his friends and neighbors which are something that people feel in reports like this very often.
I spoke to this man at the gate to his property and I believe what he said. His sighting was in the late 1990's.

7: Lynn Hutton and his son have amazing sighting in 1993 In Anderson County Kentucky.

Lynn Hutton has lived in Anderson County his en-tire life and is a very likeable man. He and his family have lived in the
small community of String Town for many years, which is just a short distance to the south of Lawrenceburg. Like many in this rural part of Kentucky, Lynn has been a hunter for most of his life. It was on a scouting trip on the Bonds Mill Rd. in the fall of 1993 to check for a place to deer hunt that Lynn and his young son’s lives were changed forever.

Lynn and his son were walking down a pathway alongside a dense cedar covered field. They were looking for signs of deer and a good place to setup for deer hunting. They were in an area approximately two miles from Panther Rock. As they were walking along suddenly
a large, hairy, manlike creature stepped out of the dense cedars and walked directly in front of them. This creature was within 20 feet of both Lynn and his son. The creature as well as Lynn and his son both flinched when they saw each other. Lynn and his son were both frozen
in place as their minds tried to understand what they were seeing.

This creature was very tall, thick and heavy. It was covered with long matted hair. The creature had stopped and turned its head to look at Lynn and his son and then it did something extremely odd. It stopped and with its eyes locked on Lynn and his son it walked backwards into the cedars from where it came. Lynn and his son were not only startled, they were scared out of their wits. Lynn grabbed his son and headed back and out of where they were as quickly as he could. It was many years before Lynn or his son told their story.

But over time Lynn told some friends and this was how the story came to me. Lynn and I had known each other for many years, we had attended school together and when I found his phone number and gave him a call it was good to speak with an old friend. As I spoke with Lynn about his story I could tell from his voice that he was telling me something he unequivocally
believed. I could hear not only the sincerity, but the conviction and honesty of someone who had something happen to him that was damn hard to believe, and damn hard to talk about. I could also still hear the fear in Lynn’s voice, even after all the years, as he told of the moment
this creature walked out in front of him and his son, and changed their
lives forever.

The one aspect of this story that I found extremely interesting was how the creature walked backwards with its head turned toward Lynn and his son and reentered the cedar covered land. This aspect of his sighting just made me think about the mind of this creature and what
it was thinking at this moment. Its coherent mind and its humanlike response to walking into a situation that not only surprised it but made it realize it could be in danger. The creature did not attack, it did not show aggression, it did not freeze and stand still like it was petrified
nor did it run away. It calmly backtracked its way exactly where it had come from, slowly and methodically retreating into the wilderness.
The eyewitness states that the creature never lost eye contact with them until they fled. This one moment in this sighting event tells a great deal about this creature we call Bigfoot. From this sighting we find a nonaggressive creature that apparently holds no ill will toward man and hasno desire to hurt or interact with man. We have a creature that is intelligent enough to calmly retreat while watching the humans who have startled it, a creature smart enough to not panic and possibly get it killed or injured. We have a creature that shows many levels of understanding and thought along with a level of intellect that many would think impossible from a creature many consider a savage, unintelligentanimal. We see a creature that actually acts like us, in many ways.

8: Man and his children have sighting on Harry Wise Road in 2006.

I spoke with the man through email and his report is also listed online so I will respect his desire to remain anonymous and as his story is public, report it here. The man has had multiple visual sightings as well as hearing what he thinks were the sounds made my Bigfoot..

Here is his sightings in his own words:

"Quote" it was a warm summer day of 2006 my kids and i were fishing in small pool from a creek off of harry wise rd. It stepped out of the tree line about 25ft away and at first It looked like a large man in brown carhartt coveralls. The whole thing lasted less then a minute, it stood there and starred at us. I looked over at my daughter and she was pale white she saw it too, when i looked back it was gone it had stepped back into the trees just a stealthily as it stepped out of them. This is not the first time ive seen this creature , Once in the summer of 1990 but i dismissed it as me seeing things. Then i saw it again two years ago in a tree line, all of the sightings have been close to the set of three red dots. There have been numerous other times other family members have heard what i believe to be its strange howls. As well as a few sites where trees have been scratched up as high as 7 feet in the air like something was dulling its claws. There was a peak of strange activity in the late 80's where there seemed to be allot of activity however at that time there where people living off of Bailys run and after they left the sightings quit of course."End Quote"

9: More reports

On the website Kentucky Bigfoot you can find even more reports from Anderson County. Just click the link below:
http://www.kentuckybigfoot.com/new.htm

I suspect there are many more reports in Anderson County Kentucky as in all parts of Kentucky. I have two new reports from Anderson County which I am trying to verify as I write this today. Either Bigfoot has a reason to move through Anderson County or it is like this in many places and it just so happens the people of Anderson County are just more observant and willing to talk than others are, hopefully that will change and more will come forward.
